Reunion

"Do they still do a high school reunion?"

Sure they do everybody wants to know what the others are doin

"But there is social media now, there's no need to get together and tell

what has already be shared and commented by all you know well."

Perhaps is less about the telling and more about the seeing

"There are pictures posted too I've seen people on trips skiing,

and in the islands I didn't know existed, or their struggles with well-being;

the stories of their lives never stopped being told

on the platforms where all are being sold

the image of a life so happy and fine

With the pictures of the prime meals on which they dine,

vacations and trips, families and slips, behold

the whole of a life through a glass refined,

and through these the ideas of life are becoming redefined!

What is success, what is it truly? In a world where I can fake it for a moment

Rent a expensive home and car, have a photo shoot, absorb the comment

For all the likes and shares that I can get and all the people looking at me!

Look at me, look at me! Look how perfect I can be!"

Which is why it is so important to have the seeing

To see the person in themselves their being

You've seen their posts, you've seen their shares

But what about the millions things which no one cares

To ask about; like if their day was long and hard,

Or how they felt getting that holiday card,

Thoughtfully sent by a relative you forget to visit

Or call because you simply do not have a minute.

Who asks about how they felt in the morning

Before they got to work and all that's boring.

Or how they felt when they took that sunrise

Picture what did they feel when they saw that with their eyes?

It compelled them to want to share it with you and I

So we could be a part of it like a little game of eye spy.

I know it seems like I am saying nothing really

But if I could I want to get all feely.

The thing with reunions, whether through a school

Or just an old friend and why they are cool,

Is not because you already know about the life they present.

But the act of being together in the present!

To be reminded that between every picture and post

Life goes on, with ups and downs, and for most

They don't want to make an image of perfection

Or share about themselves looking for any deep reflection

But are simply striving to live and survive

In a world in which we continuously must revive

Our sense of self and worth in the daily effort

We are all just doing whatever to make it a bit better.

And it is not easy when you see all the filtered

And doctored images, an idea of success pilfered

From a mythos of wealth and excesses

A belief reaching from the dark recesses

Of human desires of greed and waste

For those who do climb upon another for a taste

Of that star like lifestyle which glitters and shines

But takes away so much more until one finds

That it's draining and caging to live for the image

And still they race until whatever it is that is the finish.

Which is why it is important to have things like reunions

To have a human moment and not be distracted by delusions.

" Well that's all nice and such but I'd rather stay home with you and watch netflix"
