Sleeping Beauty

Looking upon the dog curled upon my bed Small white and fluffy an angel of innocence Who’s joy is to be with me so simply I marvel at a being with love so pure. Landlord and tenants Tenuous relationships This good girl is a banned one Kept here under the radar In trained silence and strained breaks Snuck out for a ride in the car Neighbors and strangers I’m aware of the dangers I should just move if I could Stress I’d remove in a place Where pets are allowed Nothing available is always the case I’m just another one waiting in the crowd Such a lovely being innocent and pure How long can we hide I’m never sure. J. Niles

This poem was written as I was taking my dog to another home to be cared for temporarily. I often have struggled with the guilt of breaking the rules to my apartment by keeping her there but she is such a wonderful being that I just can’t part ways with her forever. So I break the rules and hope not to be caught.
